The policy quoted was for a 45-year-old rider and included coverage for bodily injury protection of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident, and $50,000 in property damage. The study found the most expensive place had quotes that were 21% higher than the cost of the cheapest in Alabama. Best Motorcycle Insurance Rates In Alabama: By City Seven places in Alabama tied for having the best motorcycle insurance rates for our sample policy and rider: Clayton, Daleville, Dothan, Geneva, Heflin, Lafayette and Roanoke. All had annual premiums quoted that were 7.1% lower than the state average for the study. Most other places with rates for the study sample policy and rider below the Alabama average were not as cheap, with rates just 1.4% lower. The places in Alabama with the most expensive motorcycle insurance rates are scattered throughout the state and vary is size. For example, Birmingham is the largest city in Alabama and Carbon Hill has only about 2,000 residents. More than 1,100 people call Chatom home and frequent a number of local restaurants and outdoors activities. Motorcycle insurance rates in Chatom were 12.7% higher than the state average. Luverne, AL The place with the second-most expensive motorcycle insurance in Alabama is Luverne. The Crenshaw County city bills itself as the “Friendliest City in the South” and one with exceptional “hometown” qualities. It’s only 50 miles south of Montgomery and has about 2,800 residents. Motorcycle insurance quotes for our sample policy also were 12.7% higher than the state average. Birmingham, AL Birmingham is the largest city in the state of Alabama, with more than 212,000 residents. It’s part of a statistical area with more than 1.1 million people -- which is about a quarter of the state’s population. The city was founded by investors across a number of industries, including cotton plantation owners, bankers and railroad entrepreneurs, and still have a diverse economy. It also has some of the least affordable motorcycle insurance premiums. Quotes for our sample policy were 12.1% higher than the state average. Hoover, AL The largest suburb of Birmingham is just south of the city and has more than 84,000 residents. It’s neighborhoods are nestled at the Appalachian Mountains and it’s known for its strong school systems. A popular point of interest are the Aldridge Botanical Gardens at the city’s center. Motorcycle insurance rates in Hoover are 11.4% higher than the Alabama average. Carbon Hill, AL In northwest Alabama is the city of Carbon Hill, right off Interstate 22. It has more than 2,000 residents and a number of Christian churches. It also is known for being a place where many fossil discoveries have been made. Motorcycle insurance premiums in Carbon Hill were 9.2% higher than the state average.
